Hotel & Restaurant Chesa Grischuna in Klosters
History of the legendary hotel Chesa Grischuna
Hans Guler, who came from a family of mountain guides, opened the Hotel and Restaurant Chesa Grischuna in Klosters in 1938. He commissioned the then very well known Zurich architect Hermann Schneider, who also designed the Chesa Veglia in St. Moritz, to construct the house.
ICOMOS price for maintaining the “Landi-Style”
A peculiarity of the Chesa Grischuna is the almost completely use of local handicraft.
Together with the mural paintings by Alois Carigiet and all woodworks, the metal fittings to doors and windows were also made by local smiths and locksmiths.
The architect also designed the fabrics for curtains, table lines and the tableware.
Here the artisanal handicraft and the creative contemporary art were combined in the most wonderful way down to the last detail.
Greta Garbo, Gene Kelly, Anthony Perkins, and many others from Hollywood Studios visited the Chesa Grischuna
During the Second World War the Chesa Grischuna was one of the preferred of the Gl’s. After the war, many returned for a holiday. At that time writers, celebrities & Movie Stars also traveled to Klosters in the Chesa Grischuna. Thus, the hotel soon became known “Hollywood on the rocks”.
